Associate Vice President for Research Announced

I am pleased to announce that as a result of an internal search, Dr. Conor T. McLennan has been appointed Associate Vice President for Research, effective July 1, 2014. Dr. McLennan will be responsible for overseeing the research administration of the office, focusing on the quality of the service to the University community.

Dr. McLennan has been a faculty member in the Department of Psychology in the College of Sciences and Health Professions at CSU since 2006 and holds the rank of Associate Professor. His Ph.D. is in Cognitive Psychology from the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York. Dr. McLennan has worked in the Office of Research for the past two years, first as the Special Assistant to the Vice President for Research, and subsequently as the Interim Associate Vice President for Research.

Dr. McLennan maintains an active research lab, the Language Research Laboratory, in which he works closely with undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students. His outstanding teaching, both in and out of the lab, has received internal and external recognition. He was an invited speaker at the 2012 National Institute on the Teaching of Psychology conference, and the 2013 recipient of the Jearl D. Walker Outstanding Teaching Award in the College of Sciences and Health Professions.

Dr. McLennan has amassed a strong record of research. He is an author on a number of peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings, including papers in top-tiered journals. His research, which is primarily designed to understand the representations and processes involved in the perception of spoken language, has been funded by the National Institutes of Health: National Institute for Deafness and Other Communication Disorders and the National Science Foundation. In addition, Dr. McLennan has served as key personnel on work funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and as a consultant for research funded by Health Canada and Abbott Laboratories. He has also given numerous presentations and invited talks, and has served as an ad-hoc reviewer for NSF, the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research and the Council for the Humanities, and 20 different journals.

"I am enthusiastic about building on our recent efforts, and working on new initiatives that foster research and innovation," said Dr. McLennan. "I am excited about the opportunity to continue working with the rest of the Office of Research team, including Sponsored Programs and Research Services and the Technology Transfer Office, as well as with deans, faculty, staff, and students. Moving forward, I believe it is particularly important to focus on creating policies and structures that facilitate the ability of my fellow faculty members to successfully compete for external funding, and to conduct their externally funded research here at CSU."

Professor McLennan has distinguished himself as a scholar, teacher, mentor, and administrator during his career at CSU, and we welcome him to this important role in the University. He can be reached at 216.687.5171 or via email at, and his office is located in PH 210.
