Cleveland-Marshall College of Law Alumni of the Year

David Paris and The Honorable Melody J. Stewart are the recipients of the 2011 Alumni of the Year Award given by the C|M|LAW Alumni Association (CMLAA).

Paris, a highly respected Cleveland trial attorney, is a 1978 graduate of Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Cleveland State University. He studied in the school's part-time evening program, and during the day, clerked at the law firm that now bears his name, Nurenburg Paris. He became a principal at the firm in 1988 and was made managing partner in 2002. Since 2008, Paris has been selected each year for inclusion in the prestigious peer-review rating, The Best Lawyers in America, in the specialty of Personal Injury Litigation. He is a Fellow in the International Academy of Trial Lawyers (IATL), widely regarded as one of the most exclusive trial lawyers' groups in the world. A Life member of the CMLAA, Paris and his firm are generous supporters of Cleveland-Marshall, including sponsorship in the school's new state-of-the-art trial courtroom. His wife, Michelle, is a 1984 Cleveland-Marshall alumna.

The Honorable Melody J. Stewart attended Cleveland-Marshall as a Patricia Roberts Harris Fellow and graduated in 1988. She served as the assistant law director for the city of Cleveland, and later for the city of East Cleveland. She also held positions in academia as an administrator at Case Western Reserve University School of Law and at Cleveland-Marshall as a lecturer, adjunct faculty member, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, and Assistant Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid. Stewart earned her Ph.D. at Case Western Reserve University, Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences where she was also a Mandel Leadership Fellow. In 2006 she was elected to the Ohio 8th District Court of Appeals and re-elected in 2010. She is a Life member of the CMLAA, and has served on numerous community boards and as Volunteer Magistrate Judge for the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Diversion program.

Each year the C|M|LAW Alumni Association honors two distinguished alumni who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement, leadership and service to the community. Mr. Paris and Judge Stewart received their awards at the CMLAA Annual Recognition Luncheon May 26 at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Cleveland, an event typically attended by more than a thousand legal professionals and considered the largest gathering of attorneys in Ohio.
