Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services at CSU Receives Two NACUFS Dining Awards

Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services, a proud partner with Cleveland State University, is pleased to announce that campus dining operations received two 2011 Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards from NACUFS. The National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS) awarded Chartwells and Cleveland State University both the silver and bronze awards for residential and retail dining concepts located in the Cleveland State University Student Center. Chartwells' Pulse on Dining concept won the silver award in the Residential Dining Concepts category for the all-you-care-to-eat model. Entries were judged based on menu, merchandising, marketing, creativity, atmosphere, nutritional quality and variety. The Chartwells' Chop'd & Wrap'd concept received the bronze award in the Retail Sales Single Concept category. Entries were judged on menu, design, merchandising, nutrition and wellness, marketing, and creativity.

Chartwells' Pulse on Dining concept was implemented at the Viking Marketplace last fall. The campus state-of-the-art dining hall features towering windows that let in natural light, panoramic views of bustling downtown Cleveland and a relaxing, open dining space for students to enjoy restaurant style dining. Pulse on Dining features sustainable dining menu options, some which are sourced from a local farm, and is able to provide the freshest, highest quality foods and products that fiscally support the local community. Chartwells also provides many food choices that are produced by means of higher ethical standards as a responsible brand including cage-free eggs and Fair Trade products. Pulse on Dining also utilizes eco-friendly proprietary food waste reduction programs and composting. The Viking Marketplace features one of the first Hood Heat Recovery Units in the industry which recovers heat from kitchen equipment that filters air to heat the Student Center.

Chartwells' Chop'd & Wrap'd concept, which was also introduced in the fall semester, was developed for students who want a quick, healthy meal that they can customize with a variety of great ingredients. Culinary teams and nutrition experts created innovative menus that feature crisp salads and fresh wraps made from colorful, flavorful and savory ingredients which are also vegan and vegetarian friendly. Students enjoy Chop'd & Wrap'd because it's healthy, easy-to-eat food that is quickly prepared.

Kathleen Mooney, Assistant Director for Campus Support Services said, "The volume of traffic by commuter students, faculty and staff at these award winning dining locations is testimony to the fact that they successfully meet the diversity of demand at Cleveland State University and display the best that Chartwells has to offer."

"The Chartwells team at Cleveland State University is proud to receive both honors that celebrate excellence in university foodservice dining. We are also proud to provide students with nationally recognized concepts that preserve the environment and exceed student expectations. We appreciate the opportunity to serve the campus and community and thank NACUFS for this honor." said Jim Razzante, Chartwells' Director of Dining Services.
