Political Activist and Harvard Law Professor, Lawrence Lessig, to Speak on Money and Politics

Nationally known author, attorney and activist, Lawrence Lessig, will present "In Plain Sight: The Nature of the Corruption that is Congress" Monday, March 28, at 5:30 p.m. in the Moot Court Room of Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.

Lessig is director of the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics and a professor of law at Harvard Law School. For much of his career, he has focused his work on law and technology, especially as it affects copyright. He is the author of five books on the subject and in 2000, founded the Center for Internet and Society at Stanford Law School. In addition, Lessig is a co-founding board member of the groundbreaking organization Creative Commons, a nonprofit that gives creators more control over sharing their intellectual property via the Internet.

His current work - and the topic of his presentation - gives attention to money and politics, specifically focusing on the role money can play in the corruption of government. He is a co-founder of the group "Fix Congress First" along with political strategist Joe Trippi. Their goal is to restore public trust in government through regulation of campaign contributions and public financing of elections.

The program is free and open to the public. Cleveland-Marshall College of Law is located at Cleveland State University, 1801 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland.

The event is sponsored by Patriots for Change, Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, and the Cleveland Committee on Corporations, Law and Democracy.
