Engaged CSU grad Thomas Hopkins encourages students to pay it forward

“If we can help move juniors and seniors along (toward graduation), we can help build the economic future for them and for the community,” said Thomas E. Volunteer leaders looked at leveraging University’s strengths

CSU’s volunteer leaders gathered in April to hear from a researcher who has devoted his career to studying how universities can benefit from being in thriving cities while at the same time helping their host cities thrive. The gathering, CSU’s second annual Volunteer Leadership Summit, included members of CSU’s Board of Trustees, the Alumni Association board, the Board of Directors of the CSU Foundation, and members of the Visiting Committees that exist for each college within the University. Summer’s almost over… well, not quite. But we’re already knee deep into planning for Homecoming 2016, which takes place Sept. 26 through Oct. 1. How about getting your old pals together for a reunion? It doesn’t have to coincide with Homecoming, but with so many fun activities planned for that week, why not? Six CSU accomplished alumnae honored by YWCA, Crain’s

Mary Rose Sylvester (MBA ’98), president and CEO of Current Powered by GE; and Nancy Tinsley (MBA ’98), president of University Hospital's Parma Medical Center, and are two amazing CSU alumnae who were honored by the YWCA of Northeast Ohio this spring with its “Women of Achievement” award. Meanwhile, Crain’s Cleveland Business honored 15 “Women of Note” in early May. They included Tinsley and Elizabeth Evans (MBA ’07, JD ’07), general counsel, Republic Steel; Robyn Gordon (BBA ’92, MBA ’96), director of center operations at NASA Glenn Research Center; Debra Green (BA ’78), director of community outreach, Medical Mutual of Ohio; and Lisa Rose (BBA ’98), president, Dix & Eaton.
